Terry Reilly Health Services (TRHS), was the first and is still the largest community health center in Idaho. It receives federal financial assistance to serve the low-income uninsured population in general, migrant and seasonal farm workers, and the homeless. Its clinics (five medical, four dental, and eight sites with behavioral health services) are in the populous southwest corner of Idaho. The service area includes Boise (state capitol) and all of Ada County, Canyon County, and the western portion of Owyhee County. TRHS provides comprehensive primary care services, including many special preventive health services initiatives. In 2004, TRHS provided medical services for 20,487 individuals and dental services for 6,151 individuals.
About Us
This health center was founded in 1971 by Terry Reilly, a conscientious objector during the Viet Nam War who was assigned to work with children of migrant workers in the heavily agricultural Canyon County area. He quickly discovered that the children and their families faced health care access barriers, as did other low-income people throughout the Southwest Idaho area. With the aid of volunteer physician Clarence McIntyre, a clinic was started in 1971. Financial support followed, principally from a federal Migrant Health Center grant.
What Terry Reilly Health Services is most proud of is its continually growing capacity to serve more and more needy people, and to do it well. It is equally proud of its highly competent and dedicated staff, its cultural competency, its diverse services, and its strong community support, including United Way and other local sources of funding. Unique among community health centers in having the SANE SOLUTIONS Program, the state’s largest physical and sexual abuse treatment program that treats both victims and offenders.
Core Purpose: To strengthen the communities we serve by improving their health and quality of life.
